A multitude of devotees from Northern Mindanao flock to Cagayan de Oro to witness the annual Traslacion of the Black Nazarene. Now on its 10th “traslacion” or the “transferring” in the city, the icon of Jesus of Nazareth, carrying the cross to Calvary, is the second replica of the miraculous original Black Nazarene of Basilica Minora de Quiapo, in Manila. Thus simultaneous processions being held in both cities today, only that the latter lasts for more than 12 hours due to longer procession route and heavier volume of devotees from all over the country paying homage to the Holy Icon of Jesus in hopes of receiving healing and miracles. Here in Cagayan de Oro, the Holy Mass was heard at 4AM at Saint Augustine Cathedral, following a vigil from last night until 3:00 this morning. The replica of the “Callejeron” was then sent off for the Traslacion at around 5:40, passing the streets of Velez and CM Recto Avenue, and finally reaching the doors of the Shrine of the Black Nazarene at 7:15AM.
