- Cagayan de Oro’s main thoroughfare, CM Recto Avenue, has seen signicant changes in a span of a few decades. This arterial road started out as a two-lane highway that connected West and East Misamis Oriental, with coconuts and lush vegetation ubiquitous on both sides. Fast forward to present, CM Recto Avenue now a six-lane high capacity urban road, it has become CDO’s central business district where local, national and multinational companies converge.
“Some have gone and some remain.” Here’s a 10-year comparison of some notable landmarks along CM Recto Avenue

Oro MegaCenter has long become a memory after it got razed by fire. Now, Puregold stands mighty as it is the first supermarket to greet you upon entering Cagayan de Oro, coming from East Misamis Oriental.
Coca-cola Plant has transferred to a much bigger property in Villanueva, Misamis in 2012. By 2013, this prime lot was void of commercial activities until a multi-national hotel chain constructed their branch where then Shell gasoline station (right beside old Coke plant) was once located. Came 2015, a mall giant commenced its construction. They completed construction early in 2017 and opened to the public in May, that same year.
CM Recto Fly-over that bypasses traffic along Velez-Julio Pacana junction has also seen significant changes around its vicinity. From Northern Mindanao Regional Training Hospital, to Northern Mindanao Medical Center, this premiere healthcare facility in Northern Mindanao has expanded its land area and continuously grown immensely in terms of capacity and capability to serve Cagay-anons and Misamisnons. A multinational burger brand also put up their second branch in the city, a stand-alone diner, after they opened their first branch inside a mall just a few meters away!
